8ft CEDAR WOOD FRONT DOOR DECORATIVE COLUMNS

A referral I received to build a pair of columns to replace non structural white aluminum round columns AND THE CUSTOMER WANTED THE FINEST. At first the customer was not aware if they were decorative or structural. I proceeded to verify that they were not. Instead of covering them up, I had removed them in order to gain the right amount of space to know how I could prefabricate them. No knot "clear" cedar in 1x10x8 lengths is not something anyone would want to invest into especially per column would be very expensive in my books. Therefore, I went around to any place I could find and handpicked through many piles of premium select cedar to find the best I could, in which the price came down to a quarter of the total cost of lumber by itself. Eight 1x10x8 and two 1x4x8 for the trim. I simply lightly sanded each side and stain & sealed each side of each board 2 times to not only seal but to match a desired tone. These are facing the southside where sun will hit all of the time. All were cut to size prefabricated with 3 sides assembled, glued, finished with inner blocking and prefabricated metal brackets for securing the top to the cieling & bottoms anchoring into cement correctly
